Uncertainty in Digital Elevation Data Used For Geophysical Flow Simulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Elevation information plays a crucial role in simulations of geophysical flows providing the slope and curvature information required to solve a series of differential equations. Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) used as simulation input diverge in resolution, acquisition time and generation methodology. When more than one elevation data set is available, they can be analyzed to provide an estimate of the uncertainty. This work present a method to estimate elevation uncertainty based on at least two elevation data sets. Cluster analysis of uncertainty is also carried out and a strong correlation between uncertainty and terrain curvature is found. The results of this study can be used to modify the available DEMs along ridge and valley lines, to create a quality of DEM information based on the curvature, and to provide a valuable quality measure for the input and the effect on the geophysical flow model results.

Effects of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) Spatial Resolution on Hydrological Simulation
Digital Elevation Model is one of the most important data for watershed modeling whit hydrological models that it has a significant impact on hydrological processes simulation. Several studies by the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) as useful Tool have indicated that the simulation results of this model is very sensitive to the quality of topographic data. The aim of this study is evaluati...
متن کاملRunoff simulation using SWAT model and SUFI-2 algorithm (Case study: Shafaroud watershed, Guilan Province, Iran)
Reliable estimates of runoff are required as a part of the information sets that help watershed managers make informed decisions on water resources planning and management. This study was carried out in Shafaroud watershed located in the north of Iran. In order to achieve the best runoff simulation in the study area, first rainfall data of four stations during 1998 to 2011 were collected and co...

[1] The spatial distribution of subsurface soil textural properties across the landscape is an important control on the hydrological and ecological function of a watershed. Traditional methods of mapping soils involving subjective assignment of soil boundaries are inadequate for studies requiring a quantitative assessment of the landscape and its subsurface connectivity and storage capacity. متن کاملRiver Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin
Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...
